Education Scales Well
In a world gone online “Class is full” is no longer an excuse to limit access to AP or college level courses.
Typically this time of year student in high school are vying for limited spots in AP or college level courses. These might typically be your “high flyer” kids who want to be in the conversation for more competitive top tier colleges.
Pre covid, one of the excuses that kept certain kids out of contention for these courses was “class is full” or “so sorry but we only have so many spots and we need to be selective”. But, today with education nearly all online — even in schools with a hybrid in-person component — class size is no longer relevant.
You can have 20 students or you can have 2000 students and Zoom or Google Meet will find a way to accommodate you.
Of course, in the case of AP or college level courses you don’t want to force students to enroll in them who genuinely don’t have an interest in the subject matter. It is a ton of work. But, especially in the case of education online courses scale exceptionally well.
We should allow greater access to top tier AP/College Level courses to students who genuinely want them regardless of past in-person enrollment limits.
The future of education is online and online has no limit.
